The
Association for History and Computing This group has a Web page
that includes some datasets. They are mostly about Dutch history, but
include some fun (and interpretable) sets such as the number of ships
and value of imports into Hamburg from 1733-1798 and the number of bankruptcies
in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and
Dordrecht from 1778-1810.
Mississippi
State Historical Text Archive Primarily a collection of texts, this
server does contain one very interesting on-line database entitled the
Lower
Manhattan
Project. These data are described
in "The Lower Manhattan Project: A new approach to Computer-Aided Learning
in History Classrooms" by W. Crozier and C. Gaffield in Historical Methods,
Spring 1990, pages 72-77. The data is 1890 U.S. Census data for a ward
in the lower east side of Manhattan. The article lists auxillary materials
used to contextualize the data (e.g. books and bibliographies). Very
nice teaching package.
